Martha’s Kitchen v3

I was contacted today by Edita Cruz and Louis Eros of Martha’s Kitchen, a soup kitchen in San Jose. I had done some pro bono work for them in the past, and was rather sad to see my work replaced in less than a year by a new volunteer’s (especially when I didn’t agree with the new volunteer’s design choices). They have recently had issues with domain names, and wanted to get their three domain names and three servers in order. So, I got some work!

After a couple of hours between phone calls with GoDaddy and USA Hosting, and a few minutes inside of Network Solutions‘ web interface, I had learned that one of their servers, and one of their domains were lost. I’m working on getting MarthasKitchen.org back from GoDaddy, while the server at USA Hosting had been oddly canceled, though it was paid up through 2013.

While I had them on the phone, I had to ask why they went with a different design(er). Having just worked on the redesign for this site last night, I had to chuckle when they said that the new designer showed them Wordpress. I offered to redo their old skin into Wordpress, and they were happy. And, five hours later, it seems to be mostly done. All that remains is getting their last domain name, MarthasKitchenSJ.org, onto my server as well, and some sort of gallery plugin for Wordpress.

Having several hours of work (and income!) is welcome, too.

Redesign

Under construction. Likely for a long time, until blogging holds a stronger attraction over me what with the distractions of Facebook and Twitter, not to mention my own non-bloggy attitude.
